HAIKU is an
imitation of Japanese verse. The poem consists
of three lines of five. No more or less! There
must be a representation of five syllables
respectively. Each line must contain syllables
for each individual word present. Therefore, the
entire poem is consistent of syllables.
N.B.
This may vary at any given time. HAIKU
is an
imitation
of Japanese verse. Hence, an imitation can
possibly vary to adapt to certain situations.
TANKA is a much
older form of Japanese poetry that pre-dates
haiku. The poem consists of five units following
the mora pattern.
The first and third lines
are composed of five syllables and the rest of
seven.
N.B.
In ancient times, poems of this form
were referred to as "hanka".
NO! OPS is not an
agent nor publisher in any way or form. OPS is a
society where Australian and international poets
can visit or join to gain knowledge and an
advantage when it comes to poetry. OPS helps in
locating newspapers, magazines etc., where
poetry reviews are printed, where to find
literary agents that accept poetry manuscripts
as well as how to go about setting up a
manuscript for submission to a publisher.
OPS does cater in
promoting poetry on our web site under the
section
WEEKLY POEM &
DAILY POEM. If you wish to
submit your poem for publicity, then please
click on the
SUBMISSIONS link that can be
found at the top of the page.
DOES OPS PRINT ANTHOLOGIES OR OTHER SERIES OF
BOOKS?
At this current
time, OPS does not print Anthologies. Although
in the future, we will look into the
possibility. In regards to other publications,
such as chapbooks, it is highly unlikely for OPS
to consider the possibility of printing.
There are many
different ways in which you gain exposure for
yourself, your works and poetry. Ranging from
local radio and newspaper interviews, public
recitals, your own web site as well as other
ways. I recommend using journals / e-journals /
magazines and e-zines.
The most popular
way used by many up-and-coming poets'. There are
literally hundreds of journals / e-journals /
magazines and e-zine's that accept poetry
submissions and posses reputations of high
excellence. Most submissions are accepted
without a fee. Some case scenario's a fee is
induced. Either a free submission or paid
submission, it is cheap and affordable and can
attract worldwide exposure. An added bonus is
that some journals and magazines will actually
offer payment and also; more so with journals,
you may be offered a feature poet spot.
However, OPS does
not endorse and particular journal, e-journal,
magazine or e-zine.
